This is something we've debated about a lot in our house, as we imagine situations Jewel will face growing up.

Let me go write a new post ... :)

Hello Tiffany,

I just came across your blog and it's interesting to me. I have been dressing modestly and conservatively for a year or so, and learned to sew in order to make my own dresses. But I have one problem: I have a job in the deli department of a grocery store that requires "black pants" as part of the dress code. They do allow me to wear my headcovering as long as I wear a hairnet underneath, but asking permission to wear skirts seems like a real stretch. I'm really not sure what I should do.

Dear Tiffany,

The photo does not offend me, you have your own free will to do things as you see fit. I was just wondering about it.

I was at such a point myself a few years ago. I got married while I was in the world, but I chose not to put my marriage photos (showing my low cut dress) on the wall since I had an experience with the Lord. Sad, but I feel as the Bible says whosoever looks upon a women and lust after her has committed adultery with her in his heart, I'd rather not do it at all than to stand before Him one day having to give account for that.

It is up to each of us to walk our individual walk with the Lord and ask for the revelation we need, from Him.

You seem to be a lovely person, God bless you richly and thank you for your honest chat!

Marthie -

I'm so glad you came back and let me know what was on your mind! :)

I looked again at that page, and talked it over extensively with Wolf. While that photo clearly depicts me wearing things that I now find immodest (just pants meets that description!), it was deliberately chosen as benign... And the reason it is there is to illustrate the point.

There are people who are raised in the church, and have always dressed (at least relatively) modestly, behaved (at least relatively well), etc. That is not who I am. I am not in the least "proud" of my past, but it is an important part of understanding who I am, and it does give me a lot of wisdom and experience - a lot of lessons learned "the hard way."

I'm sorry if the photo offends you. Perhaps a disclaimer at the top of the page is in order.

Again, I'm delighted to have you here, and I hope to hear more from you on the blog!

Hi Tiffany

Thank you for your reply!
I mean on the About Us page when clicking on 'Tiffany'.

This should then be an old photo of which you might have forgotten(?). Having had the life and wordly opportunities you had (and being beautiful) it is wonderful to read all about your turnaround. This flesh will fade away, our theophanies are waiting for us over yonder, praise the Lord!

I am also wearing skirts and dresses - apart from the modest apparel scriptures in the NT, Deut 22:5 also states that it is an abomination for a woman to wear clothes pertaining to a man. Many people argue and say that the old Jewish men wore dresses where in fact those are mantles they wore OVER breeches.

God bless you :)

Katy -

I had trouble finding "generous" skirts as well, and eventually had to resort to buying a couple from seamstresses I found online. While it seemed a lot of money to me at the time, it's really quite comparable to store prices (and you're getting so much more!).

Two of my favorites are Works of the Heart (http://www.worksoftheheart.com/) and Katie's Mercantile(http://katiesmercantile.com/) (I reviewed them recently)... and of course there are others.

Good luck, and happy femininity!

I enjoy wearing skirts!! I only have them for nicer weather though. I wear them alot in spring summer and fall...but in winter...it is just tooooooo cold....and I haven't found any winter skirts and tights in my size. My sister and I sewed a winter skirt for me...but despite it saying my size on the pattern...it came out a bit too small. I need to lose weight! ;)

Thanks for stopping by, Marthie!

There's no photo on the "About Us" page, so I assume you're talking about "Welcome"... but I'm still not sure what you mean.

In the top photo, Jewel and I are both wearing skirts and covered modestly.

In the lower photo, we are dressed in our Renaissance costumes (both wearing skirts, and having adapted our bodices and shirts to actually cover our cleavage, rather than the norm for that sort of attire). Is this the photo that's troubling you?

I'd be interested in finding out what your concerns are.

God bless you dear Tiffany

I am a Christian believing every word in the Bible, including dressing modestly. I was just wondering about the photo on your 'about us' page - it doesn't seem to reflect what I'm reading on your lovely blog.

The Lord is good and His Grace is sufficient to end the work that He began in us. May He continually bless you and your family, ever taking you higher.
